Our Story
From the island of Kadavu to a table in Sydney
Kava is not a product we discovered. It is how our families have welcomed guests, settled disagreements and marked every birth, wedding and farewell for as long as anyone can remember.
We started Sydney Kava so the Fijian community here could drink the kava they grew up with — and so everyone else could meet it properly, the way it is meant to be shared.

How it reaches you
Four hands, one root
Nothing is bought at auction and nothing passes through a trader. We buy from growers we are related to or have known for years, and we can tell you which village every batch came from.

Grown
Noble kava, four to five years in volcanic Kadavu soil before a single plant is pulled.

Sun-dried
Washed, split and dried on raised racks in open air — never kiln-forced, which flattens the flavour.

Tested
Every shipment is checked on arrival for variety and purity before it goes anywhere near a shelf.

Packed in Minto
Ground and sealed by hand at our warehouse in Minto, NSW, and posted the same or next day.
The farmers
We pay the grower, not the middleman
Kava takes four years to mature. A farmer who gets squeezed on price pulls plants early, and early kava is weak kava — so paying properly is not charity, it is the only way to get the quality we want.
We buy direct from family holdings on Kadavu and agree a price before planting, not after harvest.
Bula! The first bowl is for the guest. That is not a marketing line — it is the whole point of the plant.
